Cape Cod Addition in Seattle

Located in Seattle’s Bryant neighborhood, this is a very special house from the 1920s.

Our clients wanted to preserve the important exterior historic character of this house for the neighborhood, along with selective unique interior features, while getting more space for their growing family.

Our design response concentrates all the changes to the house on the rear of the building, where we allowed the new interventions to subtly contrast with the existing structure. The one exception is the covered patio on the north side of the house, which mimics the scale and form of the Cape Cod building, but is modern in its detailing.

Scope:

Addition and remodel of existing house consisting of a new upper level, lowered basement level, and new covered patio
